Summary/Abstract: The area of sociolinguistics plays an important part in the extensive framework of relationships between speaker and language, since references to rule-driven action patterns are recognisable therein. Linguistic formulations vary depending on particular speakers, listeners, languages, conversational topics, intentions, and culturally conditioned situations. The topic of the present paper is language analysis, with a focus on structures illustrated by specialised language, and on the description of the functions of language use from psychological perspectives, relying on poetry as an example. The paper deals with language varieties: on the one hand, the clear, factual, precise linguistic perception of reality by means of specialised language; on the other hand, the veiled, symbolic representation, which is filtered through one’s own experience and in some circumstances can come close to an artificial language. Both these facets can be grouped under the concept of language varieties, and can be seen as distinguishable forms of language, reaching beyond social, cultural and other types of parameters such as age, education or gender.
