Summary/Abstract: This paper comparatively discusses two modes of profane transposition of the myth about androgynous: in modernism (Wedding in Heaven and The Snake by M. Eliade) and in postmodernism (Gemini and The Disguise by M. Cărtărescu). The eternal nostalgia for perfection declined to Earth-reality, re-composition and de-composition of the symbol revived through books conveys an ontological tendency of existence in the times when culture was subdued to alienation which generates the creation of Adamic couple, and the strive to capture the archetype in modernism, or the fragmentation of the mentioned, as a protest of the idea of an archetype – in postmodernism. Both authors present the ideas of love and creation as having the function of redemption, and compensation in meeting with the Other and Self.
