Summary/Abstract: Contemporary political and scientific discourse on climate policy is greatly dominated by the naturalsciences, technical sciences and neoclassic economics, and to a lesser degree by psychologicalbehavioural insights. It leads to a significant cognitive gap which more sociological approachestry to fill, e.g., practice theory and the multi-level perspective. In this article, I present the basicassumptions of practice theory, the multi-level perspective and behavioural insights, as well asa way to use these perspectives in parallel in research on climate policy. Moreover, I proposea number of examples of empirical studies from these approaches and indicate potential directionsfor future research.
