Summary/Abstract: The present study addresses an entirely neglected topic in the Transylvanian historiographies. It represents a contribution to a cultural history of the war on the Eastern Front that still remains a desiderate, the topic being dealt with within the paradigm of the long 19th century. The paper focuses on the role of music in the context of the outbreak of the First World War. It considers the rich musical cultures from Transylvania and highlights how a previously nationalized and contendingmusical repertoire from the province of Transylvania was directed to articulate in a symphony of unity. More specifically, the author examines how music was used in 1914 to serve propaganda aims and to express multiple political loyalties of the Transylvanian Saxons.
