Summary/Abstract: It is widely known that female workers face with the significant problems and difficulties in participation aspect despite the fact they comprise of almost 50% of the workforce in a modern world where global warming is increasing rapidly, progress and changes are observed. It can also be said that the difficulties women face in their employment life are one of the most arguable and inspected problems and a knee-deep research has been conducted in academic literature. It can also be stated that glass ceiling syndrome is one of these topics and this syndrome is generally defined as invisible and fake obstacle preventing women’s participation in high administrative positions and a sum of the factors hampering promotion of women after a certain stage. The objective of this study is to determine the existence of glass ceiling syndrome in higher education institutions and identify thoughts of female academic personnel about glass ceiling obstacles. To that end, preemptively scanning of local and foreign literature has been done, glass ceiling syndrome, its dimensions, factors triggering the syndrome, theories clarifying the concept, strategies intended to break glass ceiling syndrome have been addressed with the main lines, thereafter women’s glass ceiling syndrome perceptions have been tried to be examined by female academic personnel’s field study. In this descriptive study “Female academic personnel’s glass ceiling syndrome scale” has been used as a data. In this study female academic personnel working in Azerbaijan State University of Economics has been determined as a universe.
