The First Association of Press Distributors in Bulgaria

Summary/Abstract: The article looks at the history of the "Association of Newspaper Managers in Bulgaria". The Association was founded at the beginning of 1908, registered by the Sofia district court, and thus became the first legally recognized press distribution association in the country. Only former and current managers who distributed at least two newspapers and did not compete with each other were admitted as members. The journalistic literature lacks an independent and exhaustive study of the Association, so this article aims to trace and analyze its entire development. The current study is based primarily on archives that have not been used previously in the literature, as well as on sources from the scientific and statistics literature.
