Summary/Abstract: The Pastoral Symphony is closely connected with Beethoven’s election (1819) to honorary membership of the Ljubljana Philharmonic Society, at that time the principal musical institution in the Slovene Lands. Beethoven sent a transcription of his Pastoral Symphony to the Philharmonic Society in Ljubljana and himself marked some annotations in the score. Taking into account the differences between the Ljubljana score and other existing scores, the Ljubljana transcript appears to be a remarkably interesting version of the Pastoral Symphony, one that in terms of performance technique refines some of Beethoven’s earlier ideas.
