Summary/Abstract: Self-Designations of Udmurts and Besermans and the Udmurt and Beserman Names for Their Neighbouring Peoples Udmurt dialect materials contain the following self-designations: udmort, u’mort, urtmort, urmort, utmort, udmurt, u’murt, urtmurt, urmurt, utmurt, u’mъrt. The Beserman self-designations are bes'erman, beser, besermjan. In early written sources Udmurts are called Oed-murd, Od-murd, Uhd-Murt, Uhd-Murd, Uhd-Murdt, Udъ-Murt, ud-murt, Ugъmòrtъ, ugъ-mortъ, ut-murt, ud-mort, uk-mort, urt-mort. The neighbours call Udmurts as follows: udmurt, votjak (Russian); ar (Tatar, Bashkir, Chuvash); odo (Mari), vot-ud, vot'ak (Komi). The Udmurt names for their neighbouring peoples are: zuč ’Russian’, biger ’Tatar’, baškyrt, baškъrt ’Bashkir, Tatar’, por ’Mari’, komik, z'uz'd'ak ’Komi’, mukši ’(Moksha) Mordvin’.
