Summary/Abstract: In this paper, we try to reflect on the conflict found in today’s public education generated by the distance between compulsory readings and the interests of the young. We seek ways of using commonly known pop-cultural references from books, blockbusters and series as learning materials for the education of the youth. By analyzing problems, we show some examples of using well-known and less popular characters and conflicts by focusing on their core motives to provoke debates and discussions in the classroom. Some of these are no win situations, questions of modern days’ democratic systems, the future of nuclear weapons, and the overpopulation of the Earth. The reader can get familiar with a concrete class using these methods and the evaluation of the class by the students involved.
