Summary/Abstract: The way of life of the Bulgarian colonists in Bessarabia, especially in terms of material culture, underwent serious changes under the influence of many factors during theXIX and early XX centuries. This article, based on statisticalmaterials of the XIX – early XX centuries, works of researchers of different periods and field materials of the author, allows reflecting on the dynamics of changes in such a sphereof material culture as the dwellings of Bulgarian colonists.The article describes the stages of changing the housing ofthe Bulgarians of Bessarabia and presents the main types ofhouses that prevailed at a certain period. Special attention ispaid to the comparative analysis of the experience of housebuilding brought from Bulgaria and acquired in Bugeac. Theanalytical work carried out allows us to state that at the beginning of the XX century the Bugeac type of dwelling wasformed, which was distinguished by complementing the local architectural traditions with those of the ethnic groupsthat formed here in the process of colonization. This type ofhousing is based on Dobruja house (or the north-eastern flathouse), which is characteristic of some groups of Bulgarianimmigrants from the Northeast Bulgaria
