Summary/Abstract: The paper examines the terms gestus and gesticulatio (as opposed by Jean-Claude Schmitt’s La raison des Gestes) in The Dance of Death, a widely discussed medieval dance. The focus falls on the body in composition with its gestures, therefore the first part of the paper discusses the different body and gesture concepts within the late medieval scripts and in contemporary analysis, as well. The text offers a look on the medieval meaning of the dance, meant as a dance played with Death.
