Summary/Abstract: The parodic discourse of the three stories making up the volume entitled Beautiful Strangers by Mircea Cărtărescu is a very good example of his postmodern writing that questions, at the same time, the erudition of books, ordinary life and contemporary Romanian society. Apparently, Beautiful Strangers is a lighthearted book, but in reality it is a superior, highly intelligent, metaliterary game that can be seen as an exercise in literary virtuosity.
