Summary/Abstract: Following the dynamics of representations and identity structures conveyed by the literary writing, our study focuses on the textual identity analysis of the bi-polar ego-graphic masks mirrored by the Romanian critic Sorin Alexandrescu within his narratives: the autobiographic discourse of exile and the patterns of his critical metadiscourse. Our analysis approaches two relatively different theoretical levels legitimising the coexistence of the specialised meta-discourse – centred on exile and on Cioran’s text - and Sorin Alexandrescu’s confessing writings. Viewed from these complementary dual perspectives, as enhanced within the two types of texts, the critic’s profile turns complex and coherent. Rooted in different theoretical perspectives coping with the writer – literary critic / literary narratives – metadiscourse relations, as well as in the ones concerning the biographic text, our research discusses two of Sorin Alexandrescu’s works – Portretul gânditorului ca tânăr exilat, about Emil Cioran, and Farmecul indecis al dublei identităţi, a Romanian Diary written in Amsterdam.
