Summary/Abstract: The autonomy of Silesia aroused many emotions both in the interwar period and now. Silesian province, the smallest out of 16 of which the Second Republic consisted, as the only one had its own autonomy. After the May upheaval in 1926, Michał Grażyński became the Silesian province governor from Piłsudski’s nomination, initially unwilling to autonomy. However, as a good host, he also saw positives, for example having its own treasury of the province and financing many investments, which have improved the level of economic development of the region. The aim of the article is to investigate the attitude of Silesian politicians, representatives of the central authorities of the Second Republic of Poland and also opinion of contemporary researchers towards autonomy. In the article both source materials and contemporary publications were used.
