Summary/Abstract: The diploma plays an important role in the curriculum of German philology students and has an essential biographical importance for the students who are preparing the diploma. There is still a shortage of didactic concepts and techniques which could help support competences with regard to production of scientific texts. The author of this article analyzes the problems connected with the process of creating the diploma paper and suggests solutions from the body of research on the writing process.
