Summary/Abstract: The rationalisation of competencies of the production process contractors can improve all processes implemented in the company. In this context, the research, the implementation of which determined an attempt to answer to the following question (constitutive objective of the paper), was started: What benefits (in owners’ and managers’ opinion) as a result of the improvement of competencies of the task contractors of the production process should be generated by the companies represented by them operating in the agricultural machinery sector? The article consists of two parts: theoretical and empirical. By using the method of reconstruction and interpretation of the subject literature – supported by practical experience, participant observation and a creative discussion among deliberately chosen experts – within the framework of the first part – an assessment form, related to key areas of the postulated benefits, was designed. At the empirical level the author’s intention was to determine the extent to which the studied companies are keen to generate the identified benefits.
