Summary/Abstract: Two issues have been raised in the publication. First is the origin and nature of NATO’s permanent naval units over the last few decades. The second one is a multi-faceted analysis of the activity of the ships of selected Allied States deployed in standing maritime groups (SNMG and SNMCMG) between 2002 and 2014. Analyses include, among others, the nature of the involvement of individual Alliance States in the operation of these teams, the change of the quantitative and qualitative potential of the navy and the tasks carried out within the framework of standing maritime groups of ships. The analyses were concluded with conclusions. It seems that the results of analyses may be the starting point for devising decisions regarding the realistic level of involvement of Polish Navy ships in the operation of standing Allied Naval Groups, and thereby (should) provide guidance for verifying modernization directions for The Navy.
