Summary/Abstract: The article presents selected issues concerning the abilities of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland for deterrence, and national defence - as important factors for building peaceful coexistence in this part of Europe. These issues have been addressed in the light of the experience of crisis situations, with attend to the armed conflicts of the last decades – as a threat for peace in Europe
