Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is a comparative analysis of loan portfolio quality of commercial banks and cooperative banks in Poland during the period 2010-2016, with special attention paid to macroeconomic indicators (such as GDP growth, unemployment rate and the level of inflation), which describe the economic condition in Poland. On the basis of this research it has been found that cooperative banks are charactarised by better loan quality in the years 2010-2015, however they reach higher level of non-performing loans in total loans than commercial banks in 2016. During the analysed period, GDP growth is accompanied by the improvement of loan portfolio quality in commercial banks. From 2014 to 2016, positive changes in employment are more evident at the reduction of the share of non-performing loans in total loans in commercial banks than in cooperative banks. Additionally, our findings of the banking sector loan quality, in the light of price changes in economy are inconclusive.
