Summary/Abstract: After global financial crisis cooperative banks, because of the their diversity in lending comparedto commercial banks, have become a subject of interest of many scientists. The question is, whether relationshipbanking, which is presented by cooperatives bank, plays an important role in providing loans in thepost-crisis period. The aim of this paper was to appear literature review about lending activity of the localcredit institutions and analysis of generate loans by cooperative banks. The sample 370 cooperative banksin Poland over the period 2007–2012 is divided into three research subsamples of average asset. The resultis that local banks annually increase the average level of loans. In addition, the lending activity of creditinstitutions with the highest level of assets exceeds five times the value of loans in medium-sized banks andis three times larger than the lending activities of the small banks. In all sample, the loans to assets increasedto 2011. In the period 2011–2012 loans/assets were decreasing, and in 2012 fluctuated about 90% for all threesubsamples. Average loan growth for large and medium banks during the period 2008–2012 was significantlyreduced, with the exception in 2009–2010, which was a relatively constant level. The process of reducing theloans growth of small bank in 2008–2010 was non-significantly changed, compared to the years 2010–2012.In this period small banks reported significant decline by the supply of credit.
