Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to present the new tool for measuring the competencies of project managers. The ComPM method is used to measure cognitive (individual) competencies, social and professional competencies. Theoretical background, construction principles, psychometric properties and tool characteristics are presented. The tool has been standardized according to the psychometric principles. The study was conducted in Poland, Belgium, Portugal, Italy and Slovenia, with over 500 managers of EU funded soft, research, investment and international projects. The ComPM method complies with all psychometric standards demanded of psychological tests, i.e. objectivity, standardization, validity, reliability and normalization (meeting the norms). Electronic version of the tool has embedded formulas for calculating values of measured competences. It is therefore a valuable proposal for measuring the soft competencies of project managers. The method can be used by HR departments, training and consulting companies, it identifies training needs of European project managers, it supports the process of career planning and periodic assessment of managers, as well as the recruitment and selection processes.
