Summary/Abstract: My article analyzes the office of St. Leontius (Leo), Pope of Rome, which is included in the liturgical Menaeon for February. The Life of the saint suggests several parallels with the fate of the holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius and more specifically of Constantine the Philosopher. In this connection it is interesting to investigate whether the disciples of St. Cyril and Methodius knew this saint and when his office was actually included in Bulgarian Orthodox worship. Naturally, easy answers are not possible but part of the office enables one to provide a probable answer. The published copies and old printed versions of the text contain a kontakion whose vertical structure includes the acrostych signature of Nahumos. On the basis of this discovery and by commenting on some aspects of St. Nahum’s activities the article attemps to prove the participation of the writer in compiling the service of St. Leontius.
