Summary/Abstract: The Life of Saint Naum is the earliest source created after the year 924 A.D. in Southern Bulgaria on the shores of Ohrid Lake and is a significant monument of the Ohrid Literary School. The book appeared soon after the death of Naum (December 23, 910 A.D.), when its author did not have sufficient material, therefore he was forced to create the text by using different sources. This explains the mosaic nature of the text. In favour of the early age of the text is also the small number of miracles recorded there, which were the necessary condition for canonization. The information in the text became an integral part for the subsequent authors working on books about St. Naum’s Life. Despite being broken, the text undoubtedly has a significant scientific value. Especially valuable for the Hungarian history is the third part of the text about Naum’s Life, which supports the authenticity of the text since it overlaps with the part dedicated to Moravia from the work of Constantine VII Porphyrogennetos On the Governance of the Empire. The unknown author of the book about St. Naum’s Life allows us to present the process of writing of the story about the saint’s life and simultaneously demonstrates that the creation of a book about the life of the saint could be a reliable source.
