Summary/Abstract: In the Preface to the Introductory Chapter of The Generalizing Volume of the Bulgarian Dialect Atlas (Sofia, 1988), in which the theoretical basis has been laid for the creation of the Atlas, it has been pointed out that “the maps in the Atlas are of a new kind” (p. 5).
