Aesthetics of Sentiment and Affective Language: Some Aspects of the Aesthetic Reflection of Du Bos

Summary/Abstract: This article aims to examine the question of affectivity in the French artistic discourse from the early 18th century, to the example of the Réflexions Critiques (1719) of Du Bos. It is through the relationship of affectivity to the notion of aesthetic feel-ing that we aim to demonstrate the relevance of an emotional vocabulary in this speech. The examination of the question of affectivity is also supposed to attest to the fact that at the time of the Enlightenment, the aesthetic thought is strictly connected to the thought about language.
