Conference on the history of the Czech National Council

Summary/Abstract: The scientific conference named “Czech National Council: Roots and faces of thenational parliament” and commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of the establishmentof the Czech National Council, which was organized by the Office of the Houseof Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic together with the Institutefor Contemporary History of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, tookplace on May 17 and 18, 2018, on the premises of the House of Deputies in Prague’sSněmovní Street. The report describes the contents of presentations delivered byhistorians and contemporary witnesses (including ex-politicians) and their discussion.Personal recollections thus made a useful contribution to the research ofhistorians focused not only on the establishment of the Czech National Council andthe work of the deputies in 1968 and 1969, but also on the so-called normalizationand the period after 1989, thus providing an insight into the complex mechanismof the professional support structure of the institution at different times.
