Summary/Abstract: The issue of cross-border cooperation in the Polish-Belarusian-Ukrainian borderland is an interesting and complexed challenge due to a specific nature of borderland regions, such as ethnic, religious, cultural diversity, location along the eastern external border of European Union (geographical periphery), and the certain social-economic backwardness (economic periphery). Among several programmes of cross-border cooperation co-financed by the European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument and the European Neighbourhood Instrument under the European Neighbourhood Policy, the Cross-Border Cooperation Programmes Poland-Belarus-Ukraine have being implemented. The objective of the paper is to identify the scope and the priorities of the above mentioned programmes over the periods 2007–2013 and 2014–2020 and to answer the questions of whether the predicted assumptions of the cooperation have been totally fulfilled and which barriers mostly affected the expected results. It should be underlined that the projects implemented under the Cross-Border Cooperation Programme Poland-Belarus-Ukraine have a positive impact on the development of borderland regions both in infrastructure, accessibility, entrepreneurship, new jobs creation and in environmental protection, tourism and social-cultural development. Furthermore, they foster the development of international cooperation at local and regional levels which may be regarded as further step of deepening international economic integration in top-down and bottom-up dimensions.
