Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is an attempt to answer the question: how a position of domestic enterprises has changed in Poland’s external debt once the foreign investors have been split off from the entities and how significant the influence of of extension of number of instruments included in the concept of foreign debts was. Comparative analysis of statistical data, complemented by analysis of methodological changes in balance of payments and analysis of source literature has been conducted. Research proved that the role of foreign direct investors has increased in Poland’s external debt at the cost of other sectors and general government sectors. The structure of liabilities of both entities has been dominated by loans and credits and to a lesser extent by trade credits. New instruments have not played an important role. Presented results are the effect of author’s own research, based on the newest statistical data, calculated according to the new methodology.
