Summary/Abstract: In the eyes of the residents of Upper Silesia, apart from traditional values such as the family, work or religion, the internal need of self-fulfillment, which manifests itself inter alia in the exercise of non-professional art, is also important. The article constitutes an attempt at tracing the problems of naïve art in the “Śląsk” social and cultural periodical, which is one of cultural periodicals which are published in Katowice. An analysis was performed upon all issues of the periodicals published from 1995 until 2016, and to be more specific, the colour glossy-paper pages which lack continuous pagination. The article presents a general account of the genesis of primitive art along with its peculiar features and a broader discussion of this phenomenon in Upper Silesia accompanied with an overview of the profiles of amateur artists.
