Summary/Abstract: 2018 is the 65th anniversary of the original publication of Uriel Weinreich’s Languag¬es in Contact, which gave rise to contemporary systematic research on bilingualism and language contact. The Russian translation (by Yury Zhluktenko) was published in 1979 but a broader interest in the problems of bilingualism in the former USSR was observed even earlier. The text is a concise introduction into the question of research on Russian language in contact in its diachronic and synchronic aspect, in Russia and abroad, with languages form various groups.
