Summary/Abstract: The words of Pseudo-Maurice about the Slavs and Antes, that they make many exits from their habitations in different directions (πολυσχιδεῖς τὰς διεξόδους τῶν οἰκήσεων ποιούµενα (Mauric. XI, 4, 7—8)) have been understood and translated by different scholars in two ways. Some scholars understand the word οἴκησις in this context as “house, dwelling”. Other scholars prefer “inhabited district”, what I find to be closer to the meaning of Pseudo-Maurice’s phrase.
