Summary/Abstract: The Polish Council for Intangible Cultural Heritage and the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage co-organized a seminar entitled “Building Bridges between the 1972 and 2003 Conventions: Challenges for the Future”, as a side event of the 41st Session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee. It was held on 10 July 2017, at the International Cultural Centre (MCK) in Kraków, Poland. The aim of this meeting was to debate the differences and similarities between the two UNESCO Conventions, both in normative terms and in the practical context of protection. The participants had an opportunity to discuss the challenges faced by UNESCO and the States Parties to both Conventions, as well as the specific problems faced by those groups, communities, and individuals who perceive their tangible and intangible heritage as a vital part of their identity and a point of reference for socio-cultural practices.
