Summary/Abstract: This article deals with Miron Białoszewski’s original technique of imitating and transforming sound. Drawing on poems that Białoszewski published in print as well as works that he recorded on tape, Bukowiecka examines the textual representation of sound, the sonoric interpretation of text, as well as the relationship between script and recording – media that she treats as equivalent and complementary. This leads her to question the notion that these works should belong to the genre of sound poetry or that the recordings should represent autonomous works of art. Where the same poem exists in print form and as a recording, Bukowiecka demonstrates that the text does not merely function as a score. Meaning, she argues instead, emerges between the script and the recording, without one form dominating over the other. Furthermore, Bukowiecka presents biographical material that suggests that Białoszewski was particularly sensitive to sound, that his imagination was auditory, and that his work (literary or theatrical) was created in the sonoric space of speaking and listening.
