Summary/Abstract: The contemporary didactic theories more frequently mention about the video games meaning in increasing motivation and efficiency towards learning. Educational researches conducted in variety of world centres increasingly indicate the value of educational video games in the learning process. The aim of the article “First the Game, then a Book” – Video Games as a Motivation to Read among the Secondary School Students – is to present the students’ opinions about the books that have become an inspiration for the video games’ makers. The draft will be an attempt to respond for a question: Do the virtual games fulfilling majority of student’s free time may become a motivation to reach for the prototype – a literature? The attention will be attracted over the way of applying a video game during the polish lesson by contemporary tutor in the form of cultural context. The main instrument used to collect the analysed investigative material is carried out by the questionnaires and interviews made in selected schools of Łódzkie voivodeship.
