Summary/Abstract: The first crusade was certainly one of the landmark events of the European Middle Ages, and the stories about it shaped the next generations of the inhabitants of the old continent. One of these stories is Gesta Francorum, in which we find a continuous and compact narrative, covering events that we would judge today as realistic and miraculous. However, can the historian, cut off the first from the latter with the methodological knife, while maintaining the certainty that he analyzed the text as a whole? In order to avoid similar actions, we tried to use in the research of this particular crusader story, a methodology of ritual studies, which allowed us to study the text as a whole, using also Le Goff's miraculous category.
