Summary/Abstract: The subject of this essay in Urmuz, the foremost representative of the Romanian literary avant-garde. The author discusses Urmuz’s debut in “Cugetul romanesc”, prompted by Tudor Arghezi – one of the greatest 20th century Romanian writers –, his further works published in the same paper and his destiny as a writer in a cultural context that was hostile to any novel tendencies.
