Summary/Abstract: This article is an attempt to contemplate the perception of localness in itsvarious aspects – uprooting and putting down roots along with different versions of this – in a group of Ukrainian minority women with roots in the resettlement resulting from Operation Vistula. The analysis is conducted from agender point of view with the goal of outlining women’s role in upholdingtheir autochthonic ethnic culture in conditions of a constant threat of majoritisation. Discriminating between the changing social, political and culturalconditions leads to the singling out of three generations of Ukrainian womenin Poland, adapting differently to life as an ethnic and religious minority. Alsoraised are the issues of inter-generational transfer and the accumulation of thegenerations’ knowledge, which requires readjustment – and constitutes one ofthe main areas tackled currently by the article’s author.
