Summary/Abstract: A part of the question of the continuation of Roman jurisprudence in the period of early medieval times in the area of the Apennine peninsula is also the problematics of the continuation of guilds. Th e non-interrupted evolution of guilds from the Classical times to the High Middle Ages, as well as the question of the extent of the Roman legal infl uence on the form and content of medieval guilds, does not represent an opinionable agreement among legal historians. Th e small amount of surviving and researched sources does not provide a fi rm support for an undoubtful claim about continuation or discontinuation of guilds in the Early Medieval Period. Nevertheless, the surviving sources off er a vast range of information to create suffi cient theories, which verifi cation can help the research of guilds in High and Late Medieval Ages. As an example of a modifi cation of guilds in the continuation of political, economic and social development was chosen Florence, where guilds acquired extensive infl uence during the medieval times.
