Summary/Abstract: In the article it has been attempted to analyze systematically the story of V. Drozd «Iriy» through the prism of mythology, to find images, time-spatial models and value orientations, which are closely linked with the fairytale mythological tradition and create a special subtextual layer in the artistic structure of the story. Research methods. We have used descriptive-analytical, mythopoetic, structural-semiotic methods and a motive analysis in the article. Scientific novelty. For the first time, a systematic analysis of the mythology of the story by V. Drozd «Iriy» has been made, based on the chronotopу, figurative and motive organization of the work. We have described the specifics of the interpretation of mythological motives and oppositions, in particular the search for paradise, friend-foe, frankness-hypocrisy, etc. Conclusions. It was proved that the story has a mythological basis, which manifests itself at all levels of the story. It was found out that the study of the mythological chronotopes of the work of art deserves special attention with its characteristic features: infinity, mythology of the road, experiment with the time and space line, the presence of intra-and exterior spatial binary oppositions. In the analysis of the autotextual motives of anteism and mask, we came to the conclusion that these motives are traced not only through the plot and images of the characters, but also concentrate the main ideas of the work: the person's awareness of the fatherland's importance, its values; theatricality, the play in life. In the article we have revealed the «chimeric» and the symbols of the work, which are woven into the imaginary «Iriy» system and move the plot, creating a comic effect, and sometimes they encourage the recipient to ponder on the eternal questions of being. It is noted that V. Drozd uses means of comic, metaphor, anthropomorphism, hyperbole, etc. for highlighting the story's mythopoetics, as well as for playing up the elements of the mythological plot.
