Summary/Abstract: The environment is a responsibility that we assume must jointly. Against the background of the advanced environmental damage of the past decade, the degree of involvement and increased accountability of international actors. Concern for the environment has emerged on the European agenda in the early 1970s environmental policy of the European Union (EU) was created by the Treaty of the European Community and aims to ensure environmental sustainability measures. The Treaty of Maastricht, environmental protection is a key priority of the European Union, where it is reported the need for integration and implementation of environmental policy in sectoral policies such as agriculture, energy, industry, transport. The main pillar of environmental policy is the concept of sustainable development, which is a transversal policy encompassing all other Community policies, highlighting the need to integrate environmental protection requirements into the definition and implementation of all policies.European environmental policy is based on the principles of precaution, prevention, rectification of pollution at source and 'polluter pays'. Multiannual environmental action programs set the framework for future action in all areas of environmental policy. These are horizontal and integrated strategies are taken into account in international negotiations on the environment. Finally, implementation is crucial.
