Summary/Abstract: Autochthony of mediaeval Albans in the area of present time Macedonia, besides archeological objects found in the district of Ohri and eastern Macedonia, is also proved by toponyms from antique period which gained their form through Albanian language: Naissus- Nish, Skardus-Sharr, Scupi-Shkupi, Astibos-Shtipi as well as historic pre-Slavic toponyms: Bardofci i Shkupit, Bardova e Shtipit which have as a foundation Illyrian-Albanian substrate. A considerable number of Slavic scholars try to negate the presence of Albanians during the Middle Age not only in the area of present time Macedonia, but also in Kosova, precisely relying on the large number of Slavic toponyms which were given in the lands where have lived and still live Albans by medieval Slavic administration, and by taking as a bases the criterion of toponimy. This process and violent linguistic and cultural change with Slavic coloring was imposed to Alban population by Slavic medieval administration and church. Another factor was the offering of socioeconomic privileges by new ottoman power to expropriated Albanian population, which had an impact on gradual transition into Islam religion.
