LIFELONG LEARNING IN THE CONTEXT OF GLOBALIZATION

Summary/Abstract: Globalization and the need to be competitive in a changing world force people to resort to forms of education that are outside the traditional framework. Lifelong learning totally engages people who become responsible for planning their education after having analyzed the needs and desires for a future working place. As an ongoing activity, lifelong learning is actually a normal process of adaptation involving enhanced knowledge and professional growth. In fact, globalization, the moving work force, and the rapid changes in technology make people adapt so that they will avoid becoming redundant in a competitive labor market. This paper addresses these issues, stressing the underlying importance of informal education in a world where information and skills become obsolete in the blink of an eye.
