Historical reminiscences in the context of Ukrainian crisis

Summary/Abstract: The author's analysis of linguistic codes of Ukrainian crisis is based on specific historical associations. The present mainstream Russian press that comment on the events in Ukraine on a regular basis serve as a main source of his research. The analysis of the linguistic material given proves that linguo-cultural historicisms create a value basis for explaining and backing up Russian positions in the above-mentioned context. Besides this, the linguistic units in question are the most important linguo-culturological component in the process of strengthening Russian national self-awareness. While defending their positions individual authors search for the data in history dating back as far as the period of christening Kievan Rus and up to the historical events of the 20th century.
