Summary/Abstract: The comparative case study deals with quantitative and qualitative analysis of adjectival lexisin the motherese and in the speech of four year old child. The main emphasis is given to theprototypical lexemes used in the motherese and in the child’s speech and to the role of theimitation of the mother’s speech in the use of qualitative-appreciative adjectives in the child’sspeech. We found out the significant correspondence in the qualitative a quantitative usage ofadjectives in both of the survey objects. However, the case study revealed also individualpreferences in their choice of adjectival lexemes.
