Summary/Abstract: The article analyses recent decisions of the European Court of Human Rights on protection of religious freedom and integrates them into the wider context of case law development. It deals with several judgments that have affected the registration of new religious communities. Following these judgments, a state may refuse to register a religious entity only for serious and sufficient reasons, otherwise there may be a breach of Article 9 of the European Convention on Human Rights. The article also highlights current developments concerning the wearing of clothing motivated by individuals’ religious beliefs.
