Summary/Abstract: A portrayal of the morality and sexual activity of youth, and the level of their knowledge of sexuality and psychosexual development, unequivocally indicates a need for modernising the current shape of sex education in schools. Pupils are in ever greater need of wise support from adults, since their adolescence has come at a time bearing many changes and new dangers. In the meantime the issue of sex education is highly politicised in Poland, and subjected to ideological pressure. A crusade, carried out under the motto of ‘fighting gender ideology’, has as one of its goals protection of the current, abstinence-based formula of classes in family life education, which would allegedly be replaced by demoralising influences devoid of any values. The paper attempts to demonstrate that there is no chance of achieving a modification in how sexuality is communicated in Polish schools. The parties to the dispute, citing the good of the pupils and concern for their development, are sticking to their vision of such classes, a vision which is the ‘only right one’ and is not open to negotiation. We are therefore dealing with hypocrisy among adults while youngsters are confused.
