Summary/Abstract: A modern Ukrainian novel acquires a new face. This process includes the erosion of genre markers and the latest historical prose genre redefinition. For example, since 2000 years, genre style markers of historical prose have been gained a whole palette: a historical-fantastic novel, a novel of alternative history, a political joke novel, historical fantasy, historical travesty, etc. up to nowadays mixed changes result processing. It is difficult to name even a dozen historical novels that would not contain other genre connotations, but it would have become the actual historical prose product of the epic kind. The aim of investigation. In the article we are going to indicate the role and significance of the history as a kind of reflection of memory and its antinomy forgetting in the modern Ukrainian prose genre matrix. Research methodologies are such as comparative analysis, descriptive method, contextual imagination as well as conceptive investigation. Scientific novelty consists in systematization of historical prose genre markers according to its specific and main features of the terms “remembrance” and “forgetting” in the context of the history writing and fiction novel. Verbal creativity plays a special role in this process. P. Nora examines the problem of memory in historical terms as well as J. Assmann gives also own literary dimension. It should be mentioned, that P. Nora argues that memory has undergone in fact only two forms of legitimation: historical and literary. The boundary between these two forms, according to P. Nora, has been eroded nowadays. V. Tarnavsky's creativity in the problem of distracting the mental conflict between the historical and national consciousness of Ukrainians occupies a prominent place in the history of literature. Unfortunately, V. Tarnavsky's well deserved attention during his life did not realize and was partially turned back to the literary process thanks to V. Danilenko. Complex of alternative history fiction by V. Koshelyanko also fits to the presented investigation. The role of irony puts his text in the framework of a political joke genre. Such choice is motivated with the same purpose a deeply onomastic picture of the novels. In the linguistic design we can see already declared, recognizable baroque new modern V. Kozhelanko’s style. Conclusions. The analysis of the V. Tarnavsky, V. Kozhelyanka, E. Kononenko, L. Kononovich, Y. Andrukhovych novels, it became clear, that in the modern Ukrainian novel there are significant changes of genre and stylistic features, which could be explained by the need to reorganize into the postcolonial nature of the literary process.
