CULTURAL IMPERIALISM AND STEREOTYPING OF THE FOREIGNER IN GORAN STEFANOVSKI’S PLAY EUROALIEN

Summary/Abstract: Cultural imperialism is a form of oppression executed by recognizing the values and norms of society’s dominant group as universal and exclu-sively valuable and normative, while the diversity of other groups is defined as flawed and deficient. These groups are regarded as Others and are subjects of stereotyping. This text analyzes the representation of the forms of cultural imperialism and stereotyping of the Other in the play Euroalien by Goran Stefanovski, in which the focus is on the struggle between the characters who left their home countries and the institutions of power that deprive them of the autonomy to decide for their actions.
