Summary/Abstract: In light of the current demographic changes, reflected in the increase of such indicators as the average life expectancy coupled with the decrease in the death rate and total fertility rate, Poland — like many other countries — faces the necessity of undertaking actions encouraging extending working life. Despite a significant improvement, the economic activity of Poles aged 50+, especially women, still belongs to the lowest in Europe. The lower level of economic activity in women versus men is a result of, among others, the fact that family situation has a more pronounced impact on women's decisions about retirement. Taking care of grandchildren up to 7 years old and/or chronically ill parents significantly contributes to an earlier job deactivation. This obstacle to extending working life may be diminished by an adequate social policy. At a minimum, it should include care institutions for young children and senior citizens, since many people from the 50+ generation are burdened with caregiving duties, especially towards children and parents, which increases their tendency for economic deactivation. The aim of this article is to assess the significance of WLB tools for the prolongation of the economic activity of Poles aged 50+ (especially women). The analysis was performed using data from The diagnosis of the current situation of women and men aged 50+ on the labour market in Poland, Social Diagnosis and The Conditions of Work-Life Balance in Poland.
