Summary/Abstract: Heather Hill-Vasquez’s Sacred Players: The Politics of Response in the Middle English Religious Drama was published in March 2007 by the Catholic University of America Press, and represents a study of the medieval English drama. It focuses on the evolution of the genre in the 16th century, arguing that traces of the early religious drama did not disappear, but continued to exist even after the end of the medieval period into Reformation and Renaissance periods, highlighting its ability “to serve as a force of conversion, change, and reform” (171). Even if they are eclipsed by the Elizabethan drama, religious plays continue to be performed even later and adapted so that they can be used for religious education and meet other, changing social needs.
